Adding a VPN Using Windows XP

Virtual Private Networking (VPN) is a second connection that is made for users who need to connect to Outlook after they’ve connected to their ISP (Internet Service Provider). UMC users are issued ISP accounts through either Halstad Telephone or Wikstrom Telephone.

1. Start—Control Panel—Network Connections—Create New Connection

2. Complete “Location” information (enter area code, etc). Click “Next” then select “Connect to the network at my workplace”. Click “Next” when finished .

3. Virtual Private Network Connection. Click “Next”.

4. Enter Connection Name: UMC VPN (or whatever you desire)

5. Enter Host name: umc-vpn.umcrookston.edu. If creating the initial link from off campus, you’ll need to enter the IP address: 146.57.186.252.

6. Select “Anyone’s Use”


7. Click checkbox to add a shortcut to your desktop.

Use your Internet ID for username and password to connect to VPN.
