2. Login with UMC login information. If it doesn't work, go to http://www.umn.edu/validate, login and click "Change Internet Password" and enter UMC information. This will effectively reset your X.500 (Mpls) password.

III. HOW TO CREATE A NETWORK PLACE FOR NETFILES

  1. Open My Network Places (2nd column).  Click Add Network place (left hand column).  It also works to open My Computer, my network places, add a network place.
  2. Once the wizard opens, click Next, select choose another network location, next.

  1. Enter path:  Be sure to use (https://  it will not work with http://)  (You may wish to copy and paste)

https://netfiles.umn.edu/users/########.  Enter your username in place of the ########.  Click Next.

4.  Login using UMC username/password.

5.  Type a name for this network place.

6.  Click Finish.

At this point, a window will open.  You should see a WWW drive, which is a public, SHARED drive space.  It is useful to store files like presentations &/or group projects here, so they can be accessed by group members at https://netfiles.umn.edu/user/username

You can easily move files to this new network space.  You may want to create a folder called “BACKUPS”, then copy or drag the following files to N:\

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Favorites

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Desktop

D:\ (which is you’re my Documents folder).

Be careful regarding the content you copy, it is not meant for mp3s within your “My Music” folder, etc.

Keep in mind that items in the WWW folder are not private.

GOOD JOB!  You will thank yourself someday for CREATING A BACKUP!!!
